Foreign Trade Zone
Kitty Hawk Business Park is located within Auburn’s 760-acre Foreign Trade Zone, which is considered outside the territory of U.S. Customs and therefore reduces or eliminates Customs entry procedures as well as import and export duties for most items.
Imports into the FTZ are not subject to a duty, and exports from the FTZ to another country also do not require the payment of a duty. Other export duties are significantly reduced or eliminated for most products. A wide variety of industrial processes are permitted within an FTZ, such as assembly, manufacturing, repackaging, demolition, salvage or cleaning, among others.
Businesses can lower their costs, often significantly, through the use of an FTZ, not only in duties but also subsequently in banking, insurance and outside vendors.
Kitty Hawk Business Park also provides the tax advantages of Maine’s Pine Tree Zone program, which returns 50% to 100% of payroll and property taxes paid by businesses for 10 years, provides sales and use tax exemptions, and reduces utility rates.
